Description of Species |
Shrub often tree up to 8 m tall, trunk covered in thick and corky bark, which terminates in a crown of long, bright green, slightly glossy leaves. Leaf bright green, semiglossy, compound, bears up to 100 leaflets, arranged opposite each other along the central stem, glabrous, spinescent for 90% of length. Basal leaflets not gradually reducing to spines. Flower not produced, instated of flowers yellowish-brown cones prsent, which egg-shaped to conical Fruit absent, carrying ovules and seeds on large, leaf-like megasporophylls. Megasporophylls brown-tomentose; ovules 4-10, glabrous; lamina lanceolate, regularly dentate, with 24 pungent lateral spines, apical spine distinct from lateral spines. |
