Deciduous trees up to 45 m high bark up to 30 mm thick. Leaves digitately-compound, alternate, leaflets 5-7, whorled; petiolule stout, glabrous.Leaf -lamina elliptic, elliptic-ovate or elliptic-obovate, lateral nerves 8-14 pairs. Flowers bisexual, dark crimson, solitary or 2-5 together, calyx campanulate, irregularly lobed . Carolla red, petals 5, obovate to elliptic-obovate, recurved.Stamens 65-80, 3-7.5 cm long in 5 bundles. Ovary conical, tomentose, 5-celled; ovules many. Style exceeding the stamens.
