Evergreen scandent shrubs or climbers, densely armed. Leaves ovate, elliptic – lanceolate or oblong – lanceolate, 2.5 – 5.5 cm long, subcordate at base, emarginated or retuse at apex. Flowers 0.5 – 1.2 cm across, white, in sessile or shortly peduncled umbels. Sepals subequal, ovate or suborbicular, ciliate along margins. Petals obovate or oblong, white. Stamens 25 – 40, exserted. Anthers brown. Gynophore slender, thickened in fruits. Fruits globose, smooth, yellow to black. Seeds 1 – 2, embedded in sticky pulp |
