Description of Species Shrubs or small trees, 3-4 m high, unarmed; stems branched, terete, pinkish to reddish purple. Bark light gray and smooth, and if cut, will exude milky latex that may be a skin irritant. Leaves opposite or ternate, ovate to orbiculate, rounded at base, entire, subacute; petioles reddish, sparsely hairy. Flower a cyathiaum, terminal, solitary or in elongated dichasia, yellowish cream; peduncles hairy; bracts triangular to linear, involucre cupular, turbinate; lobes broadly oblong, laciniate; glands 4 – 6, transversely oblong, greenish yellow; Male florets: pedicels; anthers subglobose; bracteoles linear, laciniate. Female floret: gynophore sparsely hairy; ovary trigonous, glabrous; styles 3, stigma capitate. Fruits broadly ovoid, trigonous, sparsely hairy; seeds ovoid, pitted or warted, ecarunculate.
