Description of Species |
Moderate-sized deciduous tree up to 25 m tall; younger parts more or less stellate-pubescent; bark grey or brown thick, pale with streaks of cream and yellow. Leaves crowded at the ends of the branches broadly ovate, cordate, stellate-pubescent beneath, basally 3-5-nerved, mature leaves 3-lobed; lobes triangular, entire, acute or caudate; leaves deeply 7-lobed or partite in younger plants; stipules lanceolate. Flowers orange-red, stellate-tomentose, with pedicels and rachis of panicle of the same colour. Calyx tomentose without, woolly at base within; lobes 5, ovate-triangular, 3-4 mm long. Gynandrophore to 1.5 cm. Staminal column with 20-30 sessile anthers. Ovary oblong; ovules 2 per cell; style short recurved; stigmas 5. Fruit a follicle, oblong, strongly nerved, glabrous.
