Description of Species Tree up to 45 m tall. Bark gray or brown, shallowly flaky, not longitudinally fissured or only at base. Branchlets hairless or persistently buff velvety. Leaf buds obtuse, stout, glabrous, setose, or woolly. Stipules green or red, lanceshaped. Leaves broadly elliptic or ovate, leathery, golden-buff velvety on the underside, initially white strigose, sometimes glabrescent, base rounded or somewhat heart-shaped, margin entire or sinuate-crenate in distal half, tip pointed. Flowers racemes in leaf axils, calyx 2 rather long and linear, 3 shorter and triangular. Carolla cream-color, with reddish tinge, sweetly scented, narrowly elliptic, Stamens are 25-30; Anthers linear to lanceshaped, Fruit nut,ovoid, winglike sepals red, linear-lanceshaped.
