Description of Species | Deciduous trees, up to 15 m high; bark dark brown or greyish-black, vertically furrrowed, exfoliating in long, thin flakes; blaze dull yellow. Leaves simple, opposite; stipules intrapetiolar, deciduous; petiole slender, glabrous; lamina elliptic, obovate-elliptic or oblong, base round or acute, apex acute, acuminate or obtuse-retuse, margin entire. Flowers white, fragrant, in lax axillary panicles; calyx tube campanulate, with a ring inside, smooth with out; lobes 6, appressed to the capsule in fruit; petals 6, ovate-suborbicular; stamens many, inserted near the base of the calyx tube, exserted; half inferior, sessile, glabrous, ovules many; style curved; stigma capitate.
