Description of Species Evergreen, erect palms; stem to 5 m tall, densely covered with persistent leaf sheaths and apically spreading crown of leaves. Leaves 1-2 m long; leaflets opposite, folded, linear-lanceolate, 15-30 x 1-1.5 cm, tip apiculate, faintly nerved. Male flowers 3-4 mm long, creamy-white, in paniculate racemes, surrounded by spathes. Female flowers yellow-green, on long peduncled spadix. Fruits 1.2-1.4 cm long, oblong, with thin pericarp, red-black when ripe. Leaf Details Leaves 1-2 m long; leaflets opposite, folded, linear-lanceolate, 15-30 x 1-1.5 cm, tip apiculate, faintly nerved.
